Welcome
This blog is to help you or a loved one eat right during the fight against cancer.
•Let's share our best recipes bearing in mind that taste, mood and other factors could alter how someone on chemo reacts.
•You can really make a difference by taking some time to upload your recipes, and inviting your friends to do so too.
I have been fighting lung cancer for four years, been on chemo since the summer of 2008.
•Some people feel food has nothing or little to do with this fight. Sometimes they are right.
•Some people look for cures from herbs or other alternative, non-medical sources. We will cover this too. There are many well-meaning people out there who have advised me about products that just have no proof. It can drive you crazy going into information overload... also easily done when you are on chemo.
Some of the issues we should share:
1.What is the best diet to avoid cancer?
2.What is the best diet once you have cancer - upload your recipes!
3.Cancer drugs often cause taste buds to numb or misinterpret taste. In my case, salty foods tasted sweet and sweets, like a chocolate muffin, tasted salty! Also, I often found myself "in the mood" for certain foods, e.g. spaghetti, and not the other wonderful meals my wife prepared. (The marriage is still great)
4.Which supplements have been proven, or at least strongly indicated, to support the chemo?
5.Do organic foods make any difference?
6.Your suggestions?
A few no-no's
1.This is a friendly blog on a very serious subject
2.No selling! Please do not attempt to sell or promote products to my readers. You can privately send me a brief description with supporting scientific or medical documentation from reputable sources, e.g. professional, peer-reviewed magazines. Send to me at andy at socialresearchfoundation.org/.
